Volunteers will be assigned to specific San Jose neighborhoods and collect visual information in support of the upcoming Census 2020.
Â
Volunteers will work in pairs to identify "low-visibility housing units". The visual information collected by the volunteer will help identify the potential number of households, per address, and help us improve our count of City residents in the upcoming Census.
Â
All data collected is protected per federal statute and will not be used for any purposes other than the Census 2020.
Do you meet these minimum requirements to volunteer?
This volunteer event will be a two hour effort. Volunteers will be required to walk for most of this time on neighborhood sidewalks while collecting information using their smart phone. Volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather (hat/sunscreen), wear comfortable walking shoes, and ensure their phone is fully charged.
City staff and community partners will provide you with a brief background on the Census and examples of "low visibility housing units". Field training will focus on getting comfortable with the smart phone data collection tool. You will be given the opportunity to test the tool as a group and ask any clarifying questions before being assigned to your neighborhoods.
